What is Hypnotherapy and how can it help me?

There are times when someone will tell me a story about a movie they have seen like Incredibles 2, or a Las Vegas stage show they attended where hypnosis was used. Some people walk away from these experiences believing that hypnotherapy/hypnosis is about someone else controlling you, or brainwashing you. News Flash, Hypnotherapy is not about another person controlling you. It’s about using hypnosis to gain greater control of yourself.

Hypnotherapy has the ability to focus and center attention on finding the answers hidden within. Often these answers have been covered up with misconceptions, myths, falsehoods, and lies that have slanted our sense of self and our true wonderful nature.

There are times when we question our own behavior asking ourselves, “What am I doing?” “Why am I acting this way? “Why can’t I stop smoking, lose weight, control my pain, relieve my anxiety or depression?” “Why am I not further along in my career?” We tell ourselves we want one thing and yet act in a different way that has little to do with the outcome we were searching for.

Hypnotherapy is very much about how we act out what we believe to be true about ourselves. We’ve ‘hypnotized’ ourselves into believing that we are not good enough, un-loveable, incompetent or powerless in some area of our life. Hypnosis is a great way to change our own minds to hold better beliefs about ourselves. Through hypnosis we direct our thoughts and intentions on the positive goals and outcomes we want, instead of what we don’t want.

Hypnosis works in a relaxed atmosphere and often resembles a common trance like state such as being fascinated by a good book, that you lose all sense of time. You might even find yourself so wrapped up in a movie, that you feel like you are right there experiencing all the emotion and excitement of the moment; you are then unaware someone has walked into the room.

One of the major principles of hypnosis is that the subconscious can’t tell the difference between reality and a strong imagination. Just by anticipating a stressful situation, real or imagined, can bring about a physiological response. Anxiety, shallow breathing, heart palpitations or a nervous stomach are all a reaction by the body to what is happening in the mind.

Hypnosis is a very pleasant experience and allows the body and mind to relax. Relaxation is perhaps one of the most important benefits to health and well-being, and is one of the best remedies for stress and stress related illnesses.

Hypnosis begins as the client enters into a pleasant state of relaxation, from there the process continues based on the clients intended goal. In this relaxed and focused state the client begins to experience clarity and finds solutions to problems. The subconscious mind uses metaphors and symbols as its language of communication. Images will often appear in a manner to be interpreted by the client and how they relate to their life. Metaphors can simplify and bring clarity to emotionally charged ideas, feelings or memories into imagery that the client understands. By comparing an object or scenario to something the client already holds to be true, can help them to resonate emotionally and reach their desired outcome more readily. Hypnotherapy is safe, it is relaxing and can be an amazing experience for anyone open to experiencing it.
